An acetate, or lacquer, was an aluminium disc with a nitrocellulose lacquer coating; because the grooves were softer than a conventionally pressed record, the sound quality deteriorated by degrees each time it was played. Acetates were much used in the music business [1958] as the quickest and easiest means of distributing recorded sound.
Die einzige Schallplatte der Quarry Men (später The Beatles) war aufgenommen auf Acetate um 2s 6d zu sparen. Sie bezahlten 17s 6d.
Die Songs waren "That'll be the Day" (Buddy Holly) mit "In Spite of all All the Danger" (McCartney, Harrison) on B-Side
